10 Ясон и пираты

Жил когда-то на Скопелосе мальчик по имени Ясон, которому очень нравилось играть на флейте. Он выучился этому от отца, а тот – от деда. Наш герой так любил музыку, что предпочитал сидеть под деревом с флейтой, а не играть со сверстниками.

Ясону было около десяти лет, когда на его семью обрушилось страшное несчастье. В дерево, под которым спали его отец и брат, ударила молния, и они оба погибли. Теперь Ясону приходилось кормить мать и сестру, а все, что он умел, была игра на флейте. Тогда он решил наняться на судно матросом. В то время немало судов бороздили воды Эгейского моря и останавливались на Скопелосе, и если тебе везло, то найти подходящий корабль было нетрудно. Ясон поспешил уплыть с острова, но в первом же порту сошел с корабля и отправился учиться музыке.

Он вскоре стал знаменитым музыкантом и объездил с выступлениями всю Грецию. Он ездил даже в Италию с ее большими театрами, и итальянцы не скупились, чтобы послушать его. Залы были полны, куда бы он ни направился. Ясон заработал столько денег, что, решив возвращаться на Скопелос, купил свой корабль. Он любил море почти так же, как музыку.

Ясон отплыл из Салоник. Погода была превосходна, и море спокойно. Он растянулся на палубе и наслаждался жарким эгейским солнцем. Как прекрасна жизнь, думал он…

Едва Ясон открыл глаза, как увидел, что на них надвигается огромный парусник. Через несколько секунд большой корабль взял на абордаж судно Ясона, и пираты бросились на него! Сопротивление было бесполезно. Он сдался на милость пиратов, и начал их просить не убивать его.

«Возьмите, что хотите, – сказал он им, – только даруйте мне жизнь, чтобы я успел повидать мать и сестру».

«Нам нужен твой корабль, – сказал предводитель пиратов, – но только без тебя! Мы тебя повесим или бросим в море, заодно и рыб покормим!»

Остальные пираты загоготали и начали кричать:

«Вздернуть его! Вздернуть его!».

Ясону нужно было думать быстро.

«Я знаю, что не могу вас остановить. Вы полны решимости меня убить. Тогда я вас прошу выполнить мою последнюю волю перед смертью. Знаете, я музыкант, и незадолго до того, как вы на меня напали, я сочинил новую мелодию. Я думаю, что она самая лучшая из всех, что когда-либо написал. Я бы попросил вас дать мне сыграть ее на флейте в первый и последний раз».

Предводитель пиратов ненадолго задумался. Он не помнил, чтобы когда-нибудь слышал, как играют на флейте, так что сказал Ясону:

«Ладно, давай, поиграй нам немного свою музыку!»

Пираты не знали, что означает музыка и не знали, что им делать. В конце концов, почти все подчинились приказу капитана и уселись на палубу.

Ясон начал играть. Ему и не надо было особенно стараться. Через какое-то время он забыл, что он пленник, и играл как перед самой избранной публикой. Он играл лучше, чем когда-либо, и его мелодии были чарующими. Даже самые жестокие из пиратов смягчились и прослезились. Многие впервые в жизни!

Они безмолвно внимали ему, пока не стемнело. Ясон остановился и приготовился проститься с белым светом. Но пираты оставались недвижимыми, словно их околдовали.

Тогда капитан, стирая слезы с глаз, сказал Ясону:

«Мы суровые мужчины, потому что выросли на судне в жестоком море. Почти все мы забыли, что значит любовь. Твоя музыка навеяла нам воспоминания детства, когда мы в первый и последний раз вкусили волшебный плод заботы и любви. Ты подарил нам такие чудесные ощущения, что я решил даровать тебе жизнь. Ты свободен, плыви, куда хочешь!»

Пираты перешли на свое судно и уплыли, оставив Ясону маленькую лодочку. Тот был вне себя от радости и продолжал играть до утра!

Он вспоминал, что, когда он был маленьким, друзья говорили ему:

«Музыка никогда не поможет тебе в бою!»

Оказалось, что они неправы.
