В северной части острова есть церквушка, какой не сыщешь на всем белом свете! Вот ее история:
Однажды, много лет тому назад один из жителей Глоссы, второго по величине селения на Скопелосе, рыбачил неподалеку от берега. Когда стемнело, он повернул лодку на Керамото, бухту, которой пользовались селяне, чтобы вернуться домой. Проплывая мимо высокого отвесного утеса близ деревни, выдающегося в море, как будто какой-то великан сдвинул его с суши в воду, он вдруг увидел слабое, но отчетливое свечение на его вершине.
Он очень удивился, потому что знал, что невозможно залезть на вершину утеса: его стены были почти отвесные. Он тогда подумал, что это была игра света, шутка, которую сыграли с ним светящиеся на небе звезды.
Однако спустя несколько дней, снова возвращаясь вечером с рыбалки, селянин опять увидел такой же свет на вершине утеса. Он было испугался, что начинает терять рассудок и видеть то, чего нет, но ничего не сказал своим односельчанам.
Но в тот вечер привиделся ему странный сон: прекрасная женщина, похожая на Пресвятую Деву, поведала ему, что на вершине утеса лежит икона, которую должны увидеть все жители острова! Рыбак в страхе проснулся и побежал к деревенскому священнику, чтобы рассказать ему о наказе Панагии. Еще до рассвета батюшка с рыбаком и другими жителями деревни спустились к утесу и все вместе обнаружили свет!
Тогда они решили сделать ступеньки, чтобы взобраться наверх.
Они работали не один месяц, терпеливо высекая ступени на отвесном утесе, и когда однажды взобрались на его вершину, то с изумлением обнаружили там старинную икону Иоанна Предтечи. Селяне с благоговением взяли ее и отнесли в часовню Благовестницы, стоявшую на берегу ровно напротив утеса. Однако на другой день они обнаружили, что иконы нет на месте, и к большому удивлению всех она нашлась на том же утесе. Тогда они решили, что это знаменье: икона хотела остаться там, где была обретена.
И вот пришлось им всем оставить свои дела, пока не построят на вершине утеса церковь для иконы Святого. Работа шла очень тяжело, потому что приходилось заносить наверх все материалы и воду.
Так была построена церковь со 105 ступенями. Селяне посадили рядом с ней на вершине утеса еще одну сосну и две-три оливы.
