13. Η Δημιουργία του συμπλέγματος των Σποράδων

Κατά την αρχαία ελληνική μυθολογία στο Σύμπαν κάποτε βασίλευε ο Τιτάνας Κρόνος, γιος του Ουρανού και της Γαίας. Υπήρχε δε μία προφητεία σύμφωνα με την οποία κάποιο από τα παιδιά του θα τον ανέτρεπε και θα έπαιρνε το θρόνο. Για τον λόγο αυτό ο Κρόνος, που είχε παντρευτεί τη Ρέα, αμέσως μόλις γεννιόνταν τα παιδιά του τα άρπαζε από την γυναίκα του και τα έτρωγε!

Η Ρέα κάποια στιγμή που ετοιμαζόταν για πολλοστή φορά να γεννήσει σκέφτηκε και εφάρμοσε το ακόλουθο τέχνασμα: : Έκρυψε το νεογέννητο και έδωσε στον μεθυσμένο σύζυγό της να φάει μια πέτρα ντυμένη με τα ρούχα του μωρού. Εκείνος στην κατάσταση που ήταν και από την βιασύνη του να ξεφορτωθεί τον πιθανό σφετεριστή του θρόνου κατάπιε την πέτρα χωρίς να καταλάβει τίποτα!

Το μωρό που το ονόμασε Δία, η Ρέα το έκρυψε σε μια σπηλιά στο όρος Δείκτη στην Κρήτη. Ήταν ένα αγόρι με χρυσά μαλλιά την ανατροφή του οποίου ανέλαβαν οι Νύμφες. Οι Νύμφες τον τοποθέτησαν σε μια ολόχρυση κούνια, που την κρέμασαν ανάμεσα στις φυλλωσιές μιας τεράστιας βελανιδιάς, έτσι ώστε να αιωρείται ανάμεσα στη γη και τον ουρανό και ο Κρόνος να μην μπορεί να τον βρει.

Όταν ο Δίας μεγάλωσε αναμετρήθηκε με τον πατέρα του και τον νίκησε. Στη συνέχεια του έδωσε ένα βοτάνι και αμέσως ο Κρόνος ξέρασε τα υπόλοιπα παιδιά του, την Ήρα, την Εστία, τη Δήμητρα τον Ποσειδώνα και τον Πλούτωνα.

Δεν κατάφερε όμως να αναλάβει τον θρόνο αμέσως, διότι τα αδέλφια του Κρόνου, οι Τιτάνες κήρυξαν τον πόλεμο στο νέο βασιλιά του Σύμπαντος.

Ο Δίας με την βοήθεια των μονόφθαλμων Κυκλώπων που μέχρι τότε ζούσαν κλεισμένοι στα έγκατα της Γης ξεκίνησε την πιο άγρια μάχη που έγινε ποτέ στο Σύμπαν.

Οι Τιτάνες και οι Κύκλωπες στη μάχη αυτή ξερίζωναν και εκσφενδόνιζαν ο ένας εναντίον του άλλου ολόκληρα βουνά.

Η μάχη έληξε υπέρ του Δία και των Κυκλώπων και σύμφωνα με το μύθο οι Σποράδες δημιουργήθηκαν μετά από τη μάχη αυτή, από τις πέτρες που έπεφταν από τον Όλυμπο στο Αιγαίο πέλαγος, οι οποίες βέβαια είχαν μέγεθος ανάλογο των αντιπάλων…

H Σκόπελος, είναι η μεγαλύτερη από τις πέτρες αυτές. Πρόκειται για την αρχαία Πεπάρηθο οφείλει δε το σημερινό της όνομα στο γεωγράφο Πτολεμαίο.
