Die Enstehung von Skopelos und der Inseln der Sporaden

Laut der altgriechischen Mythologie herrschte im Weltall der Titan Kronos, Sohn des Himmels und der Welt. Es gab mal eine Prophezeiung das eines von seinen Kindern ihn stürzen und seinen Platz einnehmen würde. Aus diesem Grund tat Kronos, der mit Rea verheiratet war, folgendes. Gleich nach der Geburt seiner Kinder nahm er sie von seiner Frau weg und verspeiste sie.

Rea die wieder mal kurz vor der Geburt eines Kindes stand, dachte sich folgendes und setzte es auch in die Tat um. Sie versteckte das neugeborene und gab ihrem besoffenen Ehemann einen mit den Sachen des Kindes angezogenen Stein. Kronos der in seiner Verfassung und in seiner Eile den möglichen Thronfolger zu entsorgen, schluckte den Stein ohne ihn zu kauen.

Das Kind das Rea Zeus nannte versteckte sie in einer Höhle mit dem Namen Dikti auf Kreta. Es war ein Junge mit goldenen Haaren für dessen Erziehung die Nymphen sorgten. Die Nymphen taten ihn in eine goldene Schaukel zwischen den Ästen eines großen Baumes so dass er zwischen der Erde und den Himmel hing. Auf diese Weise konnte ihn Kronos nicht finden.

Als Zeus groß wurde legte er sich mit seinem Vater an und siegte. Gleich darauf gab er ihm ein Kraut zum Essen und er kotzte die übrigen seiner Kinder aus, die Hera, die Estia, die Dimitra, den Poseidon und den Plouto. Er schaffte es aber nicht den Thron sofort zu besteigen weil die Geschwister von Kronos die Titanen den Krieg an den neuen König des Weltalls erklärt hatten.

Zeus der mit der Hilfe der einäugigen Zyklopen, die bis dahin im inneren der Welt lebten, begann den härtesten Kampf der jemals im Weltall stattgefunden hat.

Die Titanen und die Zyklopen warfen sich bei diesem Kampf sogar ganze Berge zu.

Den Kampf gewann Zeus und die Zyklopen und laut der Mythologie entstanden nach diesem Kampf die Sporaden von den Steinen die aus den Olymp herunter auf die Ägäis fielen, die natürlich die analoge Größe der Gegner hatten.

Skopelos ist eine der größten von diesen Steinen. Ihr altgriechischer Name war Peparithos. Ihren heutigen Namen hat Skopelos den Geographen Ptolemeus zu verdanken.
