Agios Ioannis

Auf der nördlichen Seite der Insel gibt es eine kleine einzigartige Kirche.

Das ist ihre Geschichte:

Vor langer Zeit fischte in der nähe ein Bewohner des Dorfes Glossa (das zweitgrößte Dorf der Insel Skopelos). Die Bewohner des Dorfes Glossa benutzten den Hafen von Keramoti um ihr Dorf zu erreichen. Als es dunkel wurde begann der Fischer seinen Rückweg. In der nähe eines Felsen der aussah als ob ihn ein Riese ins Wasser geworfen hatte, sah er auf der Spitze des Felsens ein Licht. Die Seiten des Felsens waren sehr steil. Er dachte es sei eine Fata Morgana ein Spiel das die Sterne ihm spielten.

Nach ein paar Tagen, als es dunkel wurde und er wieder auf seinem Rückweg nach Hause war, sah er das gleiche Licht auf der Spitze des Berges. Er bekam es mit der Angst und dachte, dass er sein Gedächtnis verliert und Sachen sieht die es nicht gibt.

Er sagte zu niemandem etwas.

In derselben Nacht träumte er etwas Seltsames: Eine hübsche Frau die der Heiligen Jungfrau ähnlich sah sagte ihm, dass es an der Spitze des Berges ein Bild gibt das alle im Dorf sehen müssen. Der Fischer wachte erschrocken auf und rannte zum Dorfpriester, um zu erzählen was ihm die Heilige Jungfrau befohlen hatte. So gingen der Fischer, der Priester und andere Bewohner des Dorfes zu dem Felsen und sahen das Licht.

Sie entschlossen sich Treppen zu bauen um an die Spitze zu gelangen.

Nach vielen Monaten harter Arbeit kamen sie an der Spitze an. Dort fanden Sie ein Bild des Heiligen Johannes. Sie brachten das Bild in die Kapelle der Evagelistria die sich gegenüber dem Felsen befand. Am nächsten Tag stellten sie fest, dass das Bild verschwunden war.

Mit Erstaunen fanden sie das Bild auf der Spitze des Berges wieder. So kamen sie zu dem Entschluss, dass es sich um ein göttliches Zeichen handelte und das Bild genau an den Platz wo man es gefunden hatte bleiben sollte.

Die Bewohner des Dorfes gaben ihre Arbeiten für so lange auf bis sie an der Spitze des Berges eine Kirche bauten die das Bild des Heiligen aufnahm. Es war eine schwere Arbeit, den man musste alle Materialien und das Wasser auf die Bergspitze tragen.

Dort wurde die Kirche mit den 105 Treppen gebaut. Sie pflanzten eine Fichte und ein paar Olivenbäume.
