斯果贝洛斯的山羊

斯果贝洛斯岛上的山羊是一种体型巨大的动物（成年的公山羊平均体重约70-75公斤，母山羊约60-65公斤）。这个品种的山羊具有许多独特的优点，主要是因为品种经过改良,居住环境的条件也很有利。

许多年来，这个地区的专家们实行严格的家畜繁殖管理，以挑选出能改良他们畜牧品质的牲畜进行配种。

今天在斯果贝洛斯岛、阿罗尼索斯岛和斯加多斯岛上都有居民在饲养这种山羊；甚至在无人居住的荒岛上，例如圣母岛、鸽子岛、尤拉岛、斯卡族拉岛、比贝利岛和萨突拉岛也能看到它们的踪影。

斯果贝洛斯品种的山羊有别于希腊其它地方所看到的山羊。它们的身上布满了光滑的短毛，大部分的毛发是红色的，通常夹杂着一些白色的斑点。它们三角形的头上有一些直线条纹和两根刺刀形的触角，还有一对直挺的小耳朵。

跟其他品种的山羊相比之下，斯果贝洛斯山羊的羊奶产量最高；甚至比那些在大马士革和马耳他岛上拥有相似畜牧条件的山羊所生产的奶量还高。以每年挤奶192天计算，2005-2006年每头山羊的平均产奶量高达329公升。

今天在全希腊所饲养的大约五百四十万头山羊中，斯果贝洛斯山羊是唯一具备谱系证书的品种；每一头山羊都有自己个别的证书。

在一份完整的谱系证书（pedigree）上记录着每只山羊的家系图和它所繁殖的后代，还有它母体所繁殖的其他后代。证书上还标示出各种对于生产最优良品种的家畜极为重要的有用资料。

谱系证书上包括以下的资料：

1. 发证单位

2. 谱系记录册的名称

3. 谱系记录册上的登记编号

4. 认证方法（耳环代码）

5. 牲畜的出生日期和性别

6. 主人或饲养人的姓名和住址

7. 牲畜的出生地和代码

8. 牲畜的母体和母体上一代的耳环代码

9. 最近一次牲畜、母体和母体上一代的配种和遗传学上的评价结果

10. 发证地点和日期

11. 谱系记录册负责人员的签名和盖章

今天在斯果贝洛斯岛上所饲养的山羊总数大约是一万一千头。
