海豹

地中海的海豹（Monachus-Monachus）是海豹品种中最稀有的一种，也是地球上六种即将濒临绝种的动物之一，也是欧洲海洋生物中最快将要绝种的哺乳类。

Monachus海豹分为三种：

地中海的海豹（Monachus-Monachus），

夏威夷的海豹（Monachus Shcaunslandi），和

加勒比海的海豹（Monachus Tropicalis）。

现存的海豹有十八个品种，其中Monachus海豹生活在地球上比较温暖的海域里。在过去的一个世纪中，很不幸的，这三种Monachus海豹都面临了极大的生存问题。这些问题的共同因素就是人类：一来是贪婪的猎人，再来是不负责任地随意破坏环境。人类的错误造成了加勒比海的海豹从此绝迹，也导致夏威夷的海豹和地中海的海豹纷纷濒临绝种。

人类和海豹自古以来就是竞争的对手。在希腊，海豹绝迹的主要成因归咎于人类的商业捕鱼活动。因为过度猎捕，海里食物严重缺乏，居住在希腊海域里的地中海海豹受到生存的威胁。他们也常被困在渔网之中，意外地被捞到渔船上来。

除此以外，商业污染和不受控制的观光事业造成海豹自然生存环境的破坏。它们被迫改变生活方式，结果海豹生育率大幅降低，甚至死亡率提高。

在自然环境的金字塔中，海豹是属于最高阶层的动物。它们的存在意味着海洋生态环境的健康；它们的绝迹则是指明生态环境正在遭受破坏。

专家们估计，今天在希腊总共大约有300只海豹（http://mom.lighthouse.gr）。

在斯果贝洛斯岛北面的阿罗尼索斯岛上和其它一些小岛上，包括鸽子岛、兄弟岛、斯卡族拉岛、圣母岛、尤拉岛、萨突拉岛和比贝利岛，拥有全世界最大的海豹族群和其它濒临绝种的动物，例如黑石鹰、爱琴海的海鸥和尤拉岛的野山羊等。

本着维护文化与生态的意识，希腊政府感受到这个地区的重要性，而在一九九二年五月宣布将这个区域规划为环境保护区域。这个地区成为希腊第一个国家海洋公园，也是地中海地区和全欧洲最壮观的海洋公园之一。

您如果有机会到访斯果贝洛斯岛，或是其它斯波拉德斯群岛的小岛，您一定要询问海洋公园的信息，安排一日游的行程，近距离亲眼目睹地中海海豹（Monachus-Monachus）的真面目。您如果有自己的船只，千万要记得，尊重这些独特生物和他们几百年来所赖以生存的宝贵家园。
